"*GASP*, konichiwa!"
So, I suspect you're all wondering what that's supposed to mean. Well, it's a quote from Oakley on our way to the grocery store tonight. So, can you tell what she saw?
The second time, it sounded more like "*GASP*, kissy white!"
Can you tell now? Any guesses?
Well, in reality, Oakley was saying "*GASP*, Christmas lights!" Yes indeed, the girls really love the Christmas lights. Tonight, I had the pleasure of teaching them what right and left mean. This was necessary because it seemed the idenitifiers of Aspen's side and Oakley's side were beginning to create a sort of competitive situation.
So, now we're back to enjoying one of the real treats of the season.
Credibility Shot
So, every night, when I’m putting Aspen in bed, I sing one of two songs for her, at her request. The two songs are “House at Pooh Corner” and “Corner of the Sky”. On several occasions, these songs have been examined in an effort to learn the meanings of new words.
“Daddy, what’s a corner?” Well, that one is pretty easy.
“Daddy, what’s a spirit?” Uh, well, um, ask your mother.
When I sing my own, fairly inaccurate version of “House at Pooh Corner”, I start with…
“Christopher Robin and I walked along, under branches lit up by the moon.”
Well, I asked Aspen what song she wanted me to sing tonight. Her response:
“Christopher Robin. But Daddy, you didn’t really walk along, did you?” Wait til she figures out that, not only did Pooh not send me "to ask of the owl if he’s there, how to loosen the jar from a nose of a bear", but I’ve never even met Pooh or Christopher Robin at all!

Picking a song...
Occasionally, I play the guitar and sing for the girls. Well, as the more "outspoken" one, Aspen generally gets to choose the songs. For much of last year, every session started with a performance of "Lord of the Dance".
Well, just recently, Aspen came up the song Brown Eyed Girl in our songbook. So, we've been using that as our first song for a while now. Well, just now we dusted off "Lord of the Dance". Aspen declared, "It's like I pick a new song out of the songbook for each year."
Well, I guess it's true.
In another unreported tidbit about guitar sessions, we can no longer perform John Denver's "Leaving on a Jet Plane". Tim's moving performances have caused tears (for fear of a departure) on multiple occasions.
"If I'm ever sick..."
So yesterday, as she does many Wednesday's, Jenn took the girls to story time at the downtown library. Story time is a fantastic program offered free at Nashville Public Libraries, and downtown, it's a full-on show with singing and juggling and puppets, and, of course, reading.
Well, on this occasion, as the Professor and Aunt Cindy Rose were walking in, Aspen pointed to a very young baby who was in the audience. She said, loud enough for the Professor to hear her, " He must be a first time visitor." Well, the first thing that always happens in the show is they ask if there are any first time visitors... The Professor and Aunt Cindy Rose both laughed, and then the Professor said, "If I'm ever sick, you can be my replacement..."
So, Aspen got her first job offer...
