Lindy's cruising along
Nothing much of note going on with Lindy. We have good nights and bad and we're adjusting pretty well. Posted by Picasa

"It's an epiduralgirl"
Oakley: I had my baby.
Tim: When?
Oakley: Four days ago.
Tim: You should have told me. I would have come to see you in the hospital.
Oakley: You did.
Tim: Oh. Where was the hospital?
Aspen: In the sunroom. I was the nurse.
Tim: Cool. Who was the doctor?
Aspen: There wasn't one.
Tim: Oh, so you caught the baby yourself?
Aspen: Yes.
Tim: How long did it take, Oakley?
Oakley: Four days.
Tim: Wow, did you have an epidural?
Oakley: Yes. I had a girl.

"Why do you need a fork?"
Tim: I'm going to go make breakfast.
Oakley: I'm going to help.
Tim: OK... Actually, I need to go potty before...
Oakley: OK! walks over to silverware drawer Why do you need a fork!?

Leaf Man
Nana & Papa were kind enough to bring a book for Lindy's birth. The book is called Leaf Man, and it's by Lois Ehlert.

In a serendipitous twist, Aspen's Encore class read Leaf Man the next week, and the homework was to create a Leaf Man of your own. Here's Aspen with hers...

Simply Oakley
Oakley, plain and simple.

Old Timers' Outing
Just because we've got a new baby in the house doesn't mean we're staying home on a beautiful day. I took the two older girls out to the park for a while today.

New Lens
I'm becoming a bit of a camera dork. I got a new lens that lets be me get great shots like this without a flash even in the house after it's dark out. Enjoy.

"Blob"
Aspen: Daddy, you're a blob.
Tim: Huh?
Aspen: You're blobbish.
Tim: Honey, that's not a very nice thing to say. What do you think a blob is?
Aspen: A person who holds hands.
Tim: Aspen, a blob is something big and shapeless.
Aspen: That's not what Coach Jennifer says!

You see, they've been playing Blob Tag at soccer practice...

I won
Aspen, Oakley, and I went out for some errands and lunch and stuff today. You know, just something to get out of the house. Well, for whatever reason, I decided to leave the music off in the car. I figured the girls needed some attention, and I had the patience for a lot of questions today.

After a discussion that ranged from foxes, to woods, to nocturnal-ness, to sharp teeth, to "I can't remember what", Aspen finally said...

"I'm going to stop talking for a while now."

It took 4 and 1/2 years, but I finally won.

Just that sweet
The girls have really been just this sweet to Lindy. Seriously, the biggest challenge is overhugging

"What do you want!?"
Try to tell me that this isn't an award winning picture of a 5 day old.

Grammie & Lindy Again

Lindy's making faces
Here we have Aspen posing properly, and what is Lindy doing? Making faces already.

Oakley and Lindy
Oakley has been simply awesome with Lindy. It's really quite awesome.

Nana's visit
Proof of Nana's visit as well

Papa's visit
Well, we forgot to get pictures of Nana and Papa with Lindy until right before they left. So, sleeping, she is. But, we really did appreciate the visit from them both.

Grammie & Lindy
Grammie has an incredible gift. She knows babies so well and is so sweet with them. This (and other pictures) attempt to capture that.

Silver Linden
For those of you aren't familiar with it, Linden is a tree just like our other daughters. You can read more about the linden here:

Tim loves the ladies...
Just to clear something up that everyone wants to ask...

Yes, I'm sincerely happy to have a family full of women!

As most of you know, I've believed for a long time I was destined to be around an endless collection of women.
I have two sisters... if any man was well prepared to live with only women, it is I.
A few moments after birth, Dr. Lipsitz said... "What is it?" In all seriousness, it never even occurred to me that I should look. I just didn't care at all!

So, I'm honored and happy to have my big brood of women.

We're home!
Well, we're already home, and in record time. We left the hospital at 11am on Sunday, following a 5:16am birth on Saturday. Home just seems like the right place to be.

Thanks to the hospital, by the way. Vanderbilt was very accomodating, and took great care of us all three times we visited.

She certainly likes her own hands. And the red cheeks are just like her sisters'.

One last shot before departing the hospital. Happily sleeping.

First time parents we are not, but we still forgot to take a blanket to the hospital. It's OK, though, because it worked out well. Lindy got to wear Tim's favorite waffle knit shirt home.

Welcome home, Lindy. Already fast asleep from the ride home, Lindy's looking good.

Check out Lindy grabbing onto Aspen's hand

Here we see Aspen with her newest little sister before a soccer game. We knew all along that Aspen would do great.

Both of the girls are doing so great with Lindy. Oakley is giving her a kiss. While we knew that Aspen would be so into Lindy, we had no idea how excitied Oakley would be.

Her body looks just like her sisters', but check out that hair!

Linden Trinity Martin, born October 8, 2005, 5:16am. She weighed 8lb 2oz and couldn't have been any healthier. We are SO thankful.

Linden Trinity Martin
Linden Trinity Martin was born at 5:16 am. She weighed 8 lb 2 oz and was 20 1/2 inches long. Both Lindy and Jenn are doing awesome!

We're going
OK, we're officially hospital bound. After a bit of cleaning so that Keeley isn't terrified of our house, we're going to the hospital tonight.

Wish us well!

8 or 9 minutes
It's looking more and more likely, folks. We're seeing them every 8 or 9 minutes right now. We think if they get to 5 we're supposed to head toward the hospital.

Are you all excited?

Contractions?
Well, if you check the blog a lot, you might get to find some stuff out before anyone else. And I'm only really writing this because Aspen said something funny.

So, Jenn's had like 3 maybe contractions. Aspen noticed Jenn wincing, and said, "Mommy, is it getting tight?" Jenn responded in the affirmative.

Aspen looked at Jenn and me, and said, seriously, "That means it's time... (looks at Tim) ... to do what?!"

Um, I don't even really know. There could certainly be more updates to follow!

Nothing like a good action shot, pink shoes and all

As the assistant coach, I get to help out on game days. Here, I think things have turned for the worse

Here's the team (minus one): Left to right, front to back... Jennifer (coach), Aspen, Sithara, Katie, Kendall, Addie, Kayla, Hannah, Isabella, Sonali, Sierra, Isabel

Aspen is playing soccer these days, and I couldn't be more proud of her. While she's not the best player, she is doing awesome. She really seems to like playing and makes an effort at all times. And I see the impact on her when she's not playing too. She's faster, tougher, and she likes to run. I couldn't be happier or prouder of her.

Jenn was honored by a "diaper shower" from our Sunday School class last Sunday. While the shower honored three people, there were a full eight present who are with child.

"Faithful"
OK. So, we were riding home from soccer practice listening to Faithful, by Go West, off of their esteemed album, Aces and Kings, the Best of Go West. (Yes, I listen to Go West, but just two songs.)

And Aspen started asking questions...

Aspen: Daddy, what does "faithful" mean?
Tim: Well, it means to love someone and always treat them right.
Aspen: (pause) I do that to Sean and Ryan

About 5 minutes later...

Aspen: Daddy, I just can't figure out who to marry.
Tim: Well, honey, you don't need to figure that out right now.
Aspen: But Daddy, I just don't know that many boys.
Tim: That's OK, honey.
Aspen: I guess I could marry Sean or Ryan...
Tim: We'll figure that out later, honey.

Those Leonard boys... first Ryan is making a move on Aspen at the 4th of July event, and now she's talking marriage!

Inforbodymation revisited
OK. Inforbodymation goes back a ways... As it is prone to do, it evolved again. And boy, will Aspen ever be proud of this when I read it at her wedding...

“Inforbodymation, yeah, yeah, yeah, recycle bin. I’m riding a cowboy!”
