So Aspen is playing soccer again this spring. We had a great time this fall with the team and Aspen did a great job in many respects. She did not, however, score a goal in the 8 games they played this fall. This never bothered me a bit, but I think it was disappointing for Aspen. (On the other field in the last game, the coaches allowed each girl to score a goal by telling the defense to let her go. This is not my favorite thing. There are plenty of other successes on a soccer field... embrace them.)
So, Aspen didn't score. Until Saturday. Aspen's teammate Kendall carried the ball up the left and got within 15 feet of the goal before falling... but Aspen was following close behind and buried her sharp angle shot in the side netting. OK, it wasn't a rocket, but it didn't just trickle in either. Aspen shot her right hand up in the air right after scoring.
I couldn't be more happy for Aspen. It really seemed to mean a lot to her, as she was
crushed on Monday when I had to cancel practice due to lighting. I am very proud.
