Over the summer, I boxed up a number of pictures at my parents’ house, shipped them home, and then did nothing with them upon arrival. Well, last night I decided they needed to get out of my closet, so I took pictures of them. And now, I’ll start sharing them with you. The best part? I showed them to the girls and they offered perfect commentary.

Soccer Video – November 7, 2009

There’s nothing particularly monumental about these two soccer games, but if you’re way into the soccer videos, enjoy. Aspen’s team, the Purple Pandas, took a bit of a beating from one of the Brentwood Soccer Club teams. Aside from our inability to get out of goal kicks and goalie pickups, things were relatively even.
As for Oakley’s game, the Smashing Dolphins looked pretty good. Strangely enough, they were playing a team called the “Blue Dolphins”. Ironically, the Blue Dolphins were navy, and the Smashing Dolphins, blue.
Oakley’s a battler…

OK, I know it’s a lot of video, but if you don’t want to watch it, you certainly don’t have to! For those of you who do, 8 more minutes of soccer, this time of Oakley in her own game. Enjoy.
Purple Pandas Pounded

This has long been the place for the adulation of my daughters’ soccer teams. Well, today we get to share a drubbing! That’s right, Aspen’s Purple Pandas went down at the hands of a good team to the tune of 7-1. But, there were some good things too! It isn’t, of course, all about winning.
One of the challenges for the Pandas was a small roster! Today, they played with just the minimum 6 throughout (and truth be told, injuries meant there were about 5 minutes where they were one short!) And, speaking of “short”, the shortish number 2 you see in the video below is none other than Oakley Martin! True, this was a U9 game, and Oakley is still 6, but her sister’s team needed some help, so Oakley stepped up. (Over the course of the game, Oakley’s sisterly, loving hands were needed for Aspen too!)
We’ve got one half worth of video that features some of Aspen’s awesome goalkeeping and a remarkable save. We’ve also got one half worth of pictures which feature, among other things, Oakley setting up the only Panda goal of the game. Well done Martin girls (and well done other Pandas who might be reading this).
Smashing Dolphins, Game 2, with Moving Pictures!

Jenn even got some video of Oakley’s game this weekend. So, I thought, why not share that too? This game lacked the late drama of Aspen’s, but it’s still fun to watch the girls run around!
Smashing Dolphins, Game 2

First off, thanks so much to Jenn, who gives up some of her enjoyment in watching soccer to film and photograph it for me and all of you. That effort often goes unnoticed by many, but not by me!
Oakley’s soccer game was a good one again this weekend (some three weeks after the last game due to rain). This week, Oakley’s team was beaten (4-2?), but that didn’t lessen the degree to which I was proud of Oakley. This time, Oakley encountered a player who was good, the kind of player who might have frustrated Oakley so much last year that she would have given up. Oakley did no such thing this time. She battled.

Anatomy of a Goal

Purple Pandas Perservere

Truth be told, I haven’t even watched this whole video yet… I’m waiting to do so with the girls. But, I thought some of you might want to kill 8 minutes on a Monday morning, so I’m putting up the video of Saturday’s soccer game.
Aspen’s team got off to a “slow” start… Pretty quickly, they were in a 3-0 hole, with little hope and lacking aggressiveness. And then, right near the end, they woke up…
